I encountered this same problem when updating Lubuntu 13.10 to 14.04 on an Asus netbook. I can only boot from BIOS by selecting the Ubuntu drive and not the 'default' So do I need to run grub-install -recheck /dev/sda1 to reinstall grub there? My default boot drive should be the /dev/sda - (Windows ) and then Ubuntu is on /dev/sdb.
